Halifax-based Talkatoo, which provides transcription software for the veterinary market, has formed a partnership with Greely, Co.-based Patterson Veterinary, under which the U.S. company can distribute Talkatoo’s products.
The two companies announced the new relationship in a press release on Tuesday, saying Patterson’s customers will now be able to use Talkatoo on any practice management software platform, including Patterson’s own NaVetor.
Patterson Veterinary and its sister company Animal Health International form one of the largest animal health companies in North America, distributing equipment and technology to animal veterinary clinics, livestock operations and agricultural stores. It is part of the Nasdaq-listed Patterson Companies Inc., which has a market capitalization of $3.2 billion.
“There is nothing that is more valuable to our customers than their time,” said Patterson Veterinary Director of Technology Dan Holland in the statement. “Partnering with Talkatoo will save customers hours of record keeping each week, while providing peace of mind that their notes are thorough and accurate.”

Talkatoo, which last summer raised $700,000 in equity funding in a round led by Concrete Ventures, has developed a Software-as-a-Service voice-recognition product that helps veterinary professionals dictate notes that are immediately transcribed. It uses artificial intelligence to ensure that complicated medical terms are identified and accurately transcribed.
The use of AI also means that the more customers use the software, the better it will understand frequently used words and lingo, including complicated medical terms. It also comes with a built-in medical dictionary and offers a feature called “My Words,” allowing customers the ability to use their own unique, customizable vocabulary.
“Having been involved in medical and veterinary diction for years, I knew there had to be a better way to deliver software,” said Talkatoo CEO Shawn Wilkie. “Our goal is simple. We want to make the day-to-day lives of medical professionals better."
Patterson said the partnership supports its objective of providing the best and most innovative technology solutions to veterinarian practices.
“Finding the right partners that bring value to our customers is a top priority for our organization,” said Holland. “Patterson Veterinary is dedicated to providing the most innovative technology solutions to veterinarians' practices, and this partnership with Talkatoo allows us to continue supporting that goal.”
