On Friday, Entrevestor and Ignite Fredericton will team up to broadcast a virtual presentation of our 2019 Startup Data analysis with a special focus on New Brunswick -- two days after our Newfoundland and Labrador presentation.
Every autumn, I go through the region presenting the Entrevestor data on the eveolution of the startup community, and this year the presentations are virtual due to the pandemic. Each of these events showcases the metrics for the entire region with a special focus on the host province.
New Brunswick was the hottest startup market in Atlantic Canada two years ago, in 2018, with massive funding rounds by Sonrai Security, Introhive and Resson. My talk Friday will look at the follow-on impacts of those funding rounds and how the New Brunswick ecosystem evolved in 2019.
I'd like to thank Larry Shaw, Adam Peabody and Kim Holland of the Ignite Fredericton/Planet Hatch group for supporting our research and hosting our New Brunswick presentations. It will take place Friday at 10 am ADT. You can pre-register here.
On Wednesday, I will be delivering a presentation focused on Newfoundland and Labrador as part of Research Week at Memorial University. It will be followed by a discussion on what actions can be taken to further improve the local ecosystem.
You can register for the NL event -- which begins at 1 pm Newfoundland time -- on Hopin or Eventbrite.
Newfoundland and Labrador dominated startup news in the region last year with the record $515 million funding round announced by Verafin, and two companies, CoLab Software and Sequence Bio, attending the Y Combinator accelerator. And no doubt, we'll discuss Verafin's US$2.75 billion exit last week.
I’d like to thank Paula Mendonça, Memorial’s director of innovation and entrepreneurship, Michelle Simms, CEO of Genesis, and Florian Villaumé, Director of the Memorial Centre for Entrepreneurship, for hosting this event.
