To launch its annual Report on Angel Investing in Canada, industry group the National Angel Capital Organization will hold a roundtable discussion Thursday featuring two speakers from Atlantic Canada.
NACO is an industry group comprised of angel investor networks, such as Anges Quebec and Ontario’s Maple Leaf Angels. It does not itself invest in startups, but its member organizations do. It does not have a member group in Atlantic Canada, which continues to lack a pan-regional angel network, but its website says members from elsewhere in Canada have invested in six Atlantic Canadian businesses.
One of the co-hosts, Colin Mason, is a professor of entrepreneurship at the University of Glasgow, but is currently an adjunct professor at Memorial University’s Faculty of Business Administration. He authored NACO’s 2021 report.
Jeff Larsen, meanwhile, is the Assistant Vice-President for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Dalhousie University and the site lead for CDL-Atlantic -- a competitive startup accelerator affiliated with Dalhousie.
Also participating will be Julie Angus, CEO of Victoria, BC-based Open Ocean Robotics, which sells solar-powered, self-driving boats for research use.
The event will be held online and is open to anyone, with a registration form available here.
