Halifax senior monitoring startup Tenera Care is among the companies accepted into the Creative Destruction Lab’s Recovery accelerator program.

The COVID-19 inspired course is a joint project with Montreal-based artificial intelligence hub Scale AI. It aims to rapidly commercialize innovations that could help protect public health or accelerate the economic recovery.

Tenera uses wearable devices to track the physical locations of seniors’ home residents, staff and visitors to within six inches. The technology has potential applications in contact tracing and social distancing enforcement.

“Our company’s passion and purpose is to keep safe the most vulnerable segments of society,” said Tenera CEO Stew Hardie in a press release. “This program is providing us with access to the people and opportunities needed to accelerate our ability to protect the seniors care population during these incredibly difficult times.”

Hardie told Entrevestor in April that the company, which has 14 staff, is considering both new hires and a potential capital raise, depending on how strong pandemic-related demand proves to be.

CDL participants take part in a series of “sprints” towards pre-defined growth metrics, with the startups that make the most progress moving on to the next stage and those that lag too far behind being ejected from the program.
