The Launch36 Demo Day, which Propel ICT is hosting Tuesday night in Dieppe, is such a big deal that we’re doing something at Entrevestor that we haven’t done in all the years, er, months we’ve been publishing.
We'll be attending the extravaganza at the Dieppe Arts & Cultural Centre and, on Wednesday, I’ll file the first of five stories on the event, and discuss the presentations by three companies we’ve already covered: CyberPsyc; LeadSift; and VidCruiter. There is so much excitement about the companies that will be graduating from the accelerator that our complete coverage will then extend over a week. There’s no way I can do these companies justice in a single report, so Entrevestor will then profile the remaining organizations, giving our readers a clear picture of all those that went through Launch36.
Launch36 is a five-month accelerator program initiated by Propel ICT, the New Brunswick tech body that promotes entrepreneurship in digital technology industries. Propel ICT Executive Director Trevor MacAusland launched the program late last year with the intention of staging two cohorts annually, with six companies in each, allowing a total of 36 companies to go through the program over three years.
But a funny thing happened: the companies were so strong that they took on 11 in the first cohort. The other interesting aspect is that two of the companies were based in Halifax, so Launch36 has grown into a regional accelerator.
Earlier this year, I had the privilege of attending the Angels Den put on by the McKenzie Accelerator and hosted by Dale Ritchie of McKenzie College in Moncton, where I learned multiple stories are needed to do justice to companies of this quality. (My understanding is that only those graduating from the program will present on Tuesday.)
My thanks to Heather Anne Ritchie for helping me with information on the participants. Watch this space starting on Wednesday as we begin our coverage of this important milestone in the development of the innovation industry.
