We were deeply saddened to learn that the tragedy in Fredericton has struck the startup community close to home.

Sara Burns, one of the victims of the shooting Friday, was the wife of Steven Burns, who recently served as the Chair of Propel ICT, the regional tech accelerator.

We at Entrevestor and others in the community send out our deepest sympathies to Steven and his family on their grievous loss.

“On behalf of the Propel ICT community, I want to express our sincere condolences to Steven Burns and his family for the tragic loss of his beloved wife and mother of their three boys,” said Propel Chair Jeff White in a statement. “Steve is a former Director and Chair of Propel’s Board of Directors.  His volunteer service to our community is one example of his commitment to community service, a passion he shared with his wife, partnering with her to address important social needs in Fredericton.”

Sara Burns had joined the Fredericton police department two years ago to fulfill her dream of becoming a police officer. On Friday, she and fellow officer Robb Costello were among four people killed in a shooting in the city’s north side.
