Nova Scotia's upcoming Silver Economy Summit will highlight the opportunities within and for the province’s growing population of older adults.

In a statement, organizers said the conference is for anyone interested in finding out how older adults in Nova Scotia are making social and economic impacts; this includes those who are looking for opportunities to start a business, volunteer or retire with a purpose.

The free, virtual event will occur May 27 and 28 and offer a range of speakers and topics, including an entrepreneurship and innovation panel, highlighting older adults who started their own businesses. The session will provide information on the supports and resources available to older adults interested in entrepreneurship

John Hamblin, a board member of the Halifax Chapter of Aging 2.0, a group that strives to accelerate innovation to address the challenges and opportunities in aging, will speak about how it is time to recognize the value inherent in Nova Scotia's growing population of older adults.

“Their experience and knowledge are the strong foundation that we need to expand our economy,” said Ed Leach, who is serving on the event’s steering committee.
