Halifax-based LeadSift, whose software finds sales leads for corporate customers, has signed a distribution agreement with HootSuite, the Vancouver startup that allows people to monitor and manage their social media traffic.
The two companies said today that the LeadSift app is now available in the HootSuite App Directory, and it can help HootSuite Clients to quickly find social media posts that can become sales leads. Clients would pay $4.99 a month to subscribe to the app.
“We’re excited to announce that an app integration partnership with HootSuite . . . that was released today is going to put our technology into the hands of new users around the world,” said LeadSift in a blog on its site.
In an interview, LeadSift CEO Tapajyoti Das said HootSuite already allows users to see streams of social media posts with certain key words. What the LeadSift app does is prioritize this stream so that the viewer sees the posts first that are more likely to result in sales leads.
Das said the HootSuite deal “could be very significant actually because it’s such a simple app” that could be useful to the hundreds of thousands of paying users on HootSuite.
LeadSift last October signed a similar deal to distribute its product though Salesforce.com. Das said that deal has been good, and should improve as the two companies begin to work on marketing initiatives together.
Das also said his company is in talks with corporations about becoming clients of LeadSift and hopes there will be announcements on such deals in the autumn.
LeadSift and HootSuite have one thing in common: they are both portfolio companies of OMERS Ventures, the most active venture capital fund in Canada. OMERS invested $500,000 in the Halifax company’s $1.35 million first round of financing last year. HootSuite, considered one of the most promising startups in Canada, attracted $20 million from OMERS in March 2012.
