Applicants are being sought for the oceans cohort of the Lab2Market program, which helps researchers commercialize their research.

Hosted by Dalhousie, Ryerson, and Memorial Universities, Lab2Market provides training and support to teams commercializing research from Canadian universities.

“This virtual 7-week program is a great opportunity for graduate students and postdocs to receive $15,000 to gain entrepreneurial skills and test the commercial potential of their ocean-related research,” Paula Mendonça, Director of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Memorial, said in a statement.

The program uses the Lean Startup model and Business Model Canvas, and is based on the similar and successful I-Corps (U.S.) and ICURe (U.K.) programs, the partners said.  Participants will spend time talking to customers, partners and competitors and testing hypotheses.

At the conclusion of the program, teams will present their findings and determine next steps. The program is supported by the Ocean Startup Project through Canada’s Ocean Supercluster, Mitacs, Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and Springboard Atlantic.

The deadline for applications is March 31. Orientation will occur August 23 to August 25, and the program will run September 13 to October 29.
