SomaDetect, a Fredericton-based company that produces an in-line sensor that measures and collects data on critical indicators of milk quality, has various job postings in our Jobs of the Week column today.
The company helps dairy farmers collect data to analyze cows milk to monitor health and milk quality. This year has been good to SomaDetect. In March, the company expanded its operations to Buffalo, and then in June, it received a $250,000 investment from the New Brunswick Innovation Foundation.
Today, Soma is searching for various new employees. It seeks a dairy engineer, two junior data scientists, a dairy sampler and data collector, and a data scientist experienced in deep learning.

Dairy Engineer
We are looking for a motivated individual with excellent communication skills for a position as a Dairy Engineer. This individual will have the opportunity to work with breakthrough technology and will lead the full installation and integration of our innovative sensor with dairy equipment.
Responsibilities
- Leads and supports the installation and integration of SomaDetect’s sensor with existing on-farm/dairy equipment
- Troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains the equipment, hardware, and software
- Ensures that all IT applications are updated, optimized, and functioning properly
- Ensures quality and reliability of dairy equipment to meet customer needs and expectations
- Builds and maintains effective relationships with dairy equipment distributors, manufacturers, and key internal and external stakeholders

Junior Data Scientist
We are looking for 2 Jr. Data Scientists to help manage image and raw data resources. This position will be responsible for ensuring that our data resources are stored securely and managed effectively. Experience or interest with machine learning and computer vision is an asset. We are looking for a curious and tech-savvy data scientist who is passionate about IoT devices and is ready to work for a dynamic start-up. This position can be based in Fredericton, NB or St. Catherines, Ontario.

- Processing, cleansing, and verifying the integrity of data used for analysis
- Doing ad-hoc analysis and presenting results in a clear manner

Dairy Sampler & Data Collector
We are looking for motivated individuals with excellent communication skills for positions as Dairy Samplers and Data Recorders. This position will work with breakthrough technology and take samples of milk for lab analysis, recording all relevant identifying information about the cow it comes from.

- Supports the integration of SomaDetect’s sensor with existing on-farm/dairy equipment
- Drives to farms and takes samples of milk, recording all relevant data
- Builds and maintains effective relationships with SomaDetect’s customers
