Invest Atlantic, the regional startup conference, is looking for applicants for its PitchCamp workshop and competition next month, as well as entrepreneurs and students to attend the event.

Now in its ninth year, Invest Atlantic is a conference that brings together entrepreneurs, investors and support organizations from across the region. The event will take place in Charlottetown from Sept. 19 to 20, hosted by the local entrepreneurship centre, Startup Zone.

One of the highlights of the agenda will be PitchCamp, in which 20 startups compete for a prize pot worth $10,000 in cash and in-kind services. The organizers have already received applicants but they want to increase the number.  You can apply for PitchCamp here. Applications are open through Friday.

PitchCamp divides its applicants into two groups – “startups” in the Pitch101 competition and “early-stage companies” in Pitch201. Startups are generally at the conceptual or formative stage and are asked to prepare a one-minute pitch. Early-stage companies, which must prepare a two-minute pitch, generally have developed a product and have some traction.

Jameson Consulting Group, which organizes Invest Atlantic, and its partners, will select 20 teams to participate in the event. These teams will attend the PitchCamp workshop on Sept. 18 then 10 of them will move on to the Pitch101 and Pitch201 competitions the following day.

In an effort to attract young  and first-time entrepreneurs, Invest Atlantic offers a hosting program in which its sponsors pay for students and founders of new companies to attend the conference. The website says as many as 50 new entrepreneurs and students will receive complementary passes through the program. If you’re interested, apply here.

Prince Edward Island will be the fourth province to host Invest Atlantic in four years. The co-chairs of this year’s event will be Alex McBeath, the General Partner of Island Capital Partners, and Patrick Farrar, the new CEO of Startup Zone.

The keynote speakers at Invest Atlantic 2018 will be Jordan Graham, Strategic Partnerships Manager at Shopify, and Matthew Spoke, Founder of AION.
