Halifax science museum The Discovery Centre and rural innovation hub IGNITE have announced a joint project to encourage Grade 12 students to pursue careers in “STEAM” fields -- science, technology, engineering, arts and math.

The Discovery Centre uses interactive exhibits to encourage young people to be interested in science. IGNITE, meanwhile, runs four centres across Nova Scotia that provide training and support services to startups.

Beginning early next year, The Discovery Centre and IGNITE will hold workshops at locations across the province, where high-schoolers will be exposed to recent innovations in the STEAM fields, and be encouraged to consider entrepreneurship.

"We are thrilled to be able to bring The Discovery Centre's world-class programming to a wider audience across Nova Scotia,” said IGNITE Chief Executive Doug Jones in a press release.

“We know that these programs allow youth to build on critical thinking, communication and teamwork skills and our hope is that it will spark interest in entrepreneurship, STEAM and innovation."
