Charlottetown-based innovation hub Startup Zone has named Sheryl MacAulay its new CEO and local businessman Mikey Wasnidge as Entrepreneur-in-Residence.

An Islander herself, MacAulay is arriving from the Greater Charlottetown Area Chamber of Commerce, where she served as Director of Policy and Communications.

“If this past year has taught us anything, it’s that no idea is off limits,” said MacAulay, who holds a Masters of Education in Leadership from Acadia University and a Political Science and Psychology Degree from St.FX University.

Started in 2016, the Startup Zone has become a destination for people starting or growing businesses, connecting entrepreneurs with the space, resources, and supports they need to grow.

“The Startup Zone is the perfect space to build on the innovative spirit that emerged throughout the pandemic. It’s an important time for the organization and I look forward to being part of its future success,” the new CEO added in a statement.

The Startup Zone is also welcoming Mikey Wasnidge as the new Entrepreneur-in-Residence.

Wasnidge, who is the current co-owner of Nimrods' restaurants, has experience of working with various startups, including Upstreet Craft Brewing and GetGifted.

“We are very happy to have Sheryl bring her professional, can-do attitude to the CEO role and for Mikey to share his experience and energy with our resident companies,” said Board of Directors Chair Ron Myers. “It is an exciting time for the Startup Zone.”

MacAulay will start as CEO full-time on Nov. 8, following her maternity leave – she has recently given birth to twins Mila and Arthur. The Board of Directors will oversee daily operations until her arrival. Wasnidge will begin his role immediately.
