Saint Mary's University in Halifax has launched a new version of its Bachelor of Commerce curriculum.

SMU’s Sobey School of Business, led by interim dean Mark Raymond, bills its revamped BComm program as offering a high level of customization and flexibility, including letting students choose whether to participate in a work co-op program, as well as international learning experiences like a trip to New York to attend a United Nations conference for young people.

“Business is constantly changing, and we have adapted our curriculum to respond to demands from industry and students alike,” said Raymond in a statement.

“Today’s students are extremely conscientious and mindful of their place in the world. Here, students learn the fundamentals of good business as well as how to do business for good.”

The statement added that new core courses have been developed in sustainability, entrepreneurship and operations management to complement those in management, finance and accounting.

The Sobey School is one of seven business schools in Canada and the only Atlantic Canadian business school to be accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business and the European Quality Improvement System — a pair of global organizations that review the quality of business schools,
