Two East Coast innovation hubs are looking for applicants to their startup support programs.

Invest Nova Scotia has put out a call for entrepreneurs interested in its GreenShoots funding and mentorship program, which offers agtech, biotech and cleantech companies up to $40,000 in grants — though there are only a few days left to apply.

And Genesis, the Newfoundland and Labrador startup support organization, is looking for applicants to the Fall cohort of its eight-week Evolution accelerator.

GreenShoots is run by Invest Nova Scotia under a partnership with industry groups Bioenterprise Canada and the Nova Scotia Innovation Hub, which is backed by the provincial and federal governments, as well as Dalhousie University. To qualify, startups must have booked less than $1 million in cumulative sales and not have already raised more than $25,000 from Invest Nova Scotia.

Applicants who are selected for the program’s shortlist will each be given 10 minutes on Zoom to present their business overview, proposed budget and a plan showing how they will use the $40,000. The presentation will be closed to the public and followed by a 10-minute question-and-answer session, also behind closed doors.

The deadline to apply is Sept. 15, and the programming begins Oct. 6. Details and an application form can be found here.

Genesis, meanwhile, says its Evolution “pre-incubator” course is designed to prepare young companies for longer programs, such as its own, three-year Enterprise incubator. Evolution promises to help entrepreneurs clarify their businesses’ value propositions, find product-market fit and find mentors.

The accelerator culminates in a public pitch competition, dubbed Pitch & Pick, for the cohort’s standout performers.

To be eligible for Evolution, companies have to be technology-focused, have already identified a pain point that their tech is meant to solve, have less that $1 million in annual revenue or be pre-revenue, and have not yet produced a minimum viable product.

Founders can learn more and apply for Evolution here. The program costs $250 and begins Oct. 11. Applications are due Oct. 4.
