Energia Ventures, the Fredericton-based accelerator affiliated with University of New Brunswick, launched its 10th cohort this week, with five participants from as far away as Israel.
Energia is hosted by the university’s J. Herbert Smith Centre for Technology, Management and Entrepreneurship, or TME, and supports startups from around the world involved in energy, smart grids, cleantech and cybersecurity. The program is in its seventh year of operation and last year began offering two annual cohorts in response to rising demand.
The five companies in the three-month program are:
Clean Valley is commercializing algae-based filtration systems for the aquaculture and medical technology industries. The company recently said it would extend a trial of its technology for growing algae in wastewater from land-based aquaculture pens with a major Portuguese operator.
This company aims to improve workplace safety while increasing productivity and reducing insurance premiums. Its AI-powered technology uses existing security camera systems to detect real-time unsafe situations.
CropMind uses computer vision technology to enhance fruit growers' decision-making with data-driven solutions. Its software and camera hardware collect and analyze crop data throughout the fruit life cycle.
Chick Pick, Fredericton
This agtech company is developing an automated AI-based system to streamline the chick sexing process in hatcheries.
KnowBoo is developing AI-based software that uses handwriting recognition and real-time data analysis to help students solve assignments. It searches for errors and provides detailed statistics for parents, educators, and students.
Energia held its ninth demo day in July as part of the TME program’s annual mid-summer festivities. The TME team has opened the applications for the 2024 cohorts. You can find more information here.
