Industry group Digital Nova Scotia is seeking applicants to a 12-week online training program for women and gender-diverse people who want to enter the tech industry, but who need an introduction to industry practices, culture and the broader IT industry.

Called Digital Skills for Women+ and funded partly by the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, the free program comprises six three-hour live sessions. The exact contents will be tailored based on the feedback of participants, but could include training in digital marketing strategy, analytics, SEO, databases, digital advertising, email marketing, cybersecurity and programming.

In addition to women, Digital Nova Scotia says the program also targets anyone who identifies as belonging to a gender identity under-represented in the tech sector, such as transgender women, non-binary people and Two-Spirit people. (Two-Spirit is a term used by many First Nations groups to describe gender non-conforming individuals who have specific social or cultural roles.)

“Digital Skills for Women+ is a learning program created by women who have experienced first hand the barriers for women+ in tech,” says Digital Nova Scotia. “This free cohort is designed to help women+ without experience in the industry to learn more about industry-related topics, the ecosystem, and career opportunities. Its purpose is to help participants build confidence, learn industry language, and ultimately leave better positioned to explore and enter a career in tech.”

The program will run from Sept. 23 to Nov. 30, and the deadline to apply is Aug. 25. You can learn more here.
