Foundry, the Massachusetts-based owner of Halifax’s LeadSift, will host an artificial intelligence-focused hackathon at Dalhousie University Nov. 12 alongside Halifax startup hub Volta.
The day-long hackathon will invite coders to develop a new piece of software employing technology from OpenAI or another large language model. Participants will be provided with an API key for OpenAI’s GPT Turbo 3.5. (An API is a system that allows coders to incorporate functionality from an existing digital product into their own work.)
Dalhousie says the event is open to anyone from students to industry professionals, with $1,000 on offer for each of the top three teams, as determined by a judging panel.
Foundry, which is itself owned by Boston-based IDG Communications, bought LeadSift for an undisclosed price in 2021. LeadSift remains headquartered in Halifax and sells software that helps salespeople identify leads using potential customers’ online activity as a signal of possible buying intent.
The hackathon will be held at Dalhousie’s Killam Library, with doors opening at 10:00 a.m. and the winners being announced that evening. You can learn more and register here.
