The Halifax-based startup hub Volta will host a seminar on media relations for startups next month, led by Entrevestor principal Peter Moreira.

The free seminar will be a hybrid in-person and online event to be held Jan. 12, starting at noon.

Dealing with the media can be daunting, confusing, but ultimately rewarding for startups. This seminar, which Moreira has led several times over the past few years,  teaches entrepreneurs how to write a press release and identify which publications to target with their news and updates.

“A good article in the right publication can help your company immeasurably, but you have to be strategic on how to approach the media," said Moreira. "I hope this seminar will help founders and CEOs to understand the best way to work with journalists and publications."

Moreira has spent more than 40 years in journalism in Asia, Europe and North America. His postings include London Bureau Chief for The Deal, European banking correspondent for Bloomberg, banking reporter for the South China Morning Post in Hong Kong, and a stint at the Canadian Press's parliamentary bureau in Ottawa. His writing has appeared in USA Today, the Columbia Journalism Review (online), the Globe and Mail, The Toronto Star, National Post, and the Independent on Sunday (London).  He is the author of six books.
