Sydney’s Verschuren Centre and Bioenterprise, Canada’s food and agri-tech organization, have signed a memorandum of understanding to work together in support of sustainable innovation in agriculture and the bioeconomy.

In a statement, Bioenterprise said the partnership means greater connection to opportunities and resources in Canada’s bioeconomy and the possibility of more collaborations with companies and organizations in Atlantic Canada. These opportunities include access to pilot-scale facilities and technical teams to support process and product optimization.

“The potential of Canada’s bioeconomy is significant, and with the growing global demand for sustainable innovation across all aspects of business and industry, we are looking forward to building a strong relationship with the Verschuren Centre,” Bioenterprise CEO Dave Smardon said in the statement.

The Verschuren Centre has been attracting an interesting range of biotech companies to its industrial fermentation facilities. Its expanding client base of companies will now gain access to Bioenterprise’s national network of expertise, mentorship and business support services, as well as potential commercialization partners.

“Together, we can help accelerate some incredibly exciting small and medium-sized Canadian businesses to effect positive change on the global landscape,” said Beth Mason, the centre's CEO.
