Kudos to Atlantic Canadian startups that have recently received recognition beyond our borders.
TitanFile, the Dartmouth digital file-sharing company, received glowing coverage Friday from the Financial Post, in its special reporting on the 50 best-managed companies in Canada. The story noted how aggressive CEO Milan Vrekic is, hoping for $10 million in revenue in Year 3, compared with an estimated $500,000 this year.
Meanwhile, Halifax-based multi-channel marketing company SimplyCast was listed as one of the top 100 Canadian startups this week in ranking compiled by global web information company Alexa.com and distributed by Vancouver’s TechVibes. SimplyCast – whose blogs incidentally are a delight to read – came in at No. 43.
(The bad news is there were no other Atlantic Canadian companies in the top 100, which I think is unfair to some of our stars like Unique Solutions of Dartmouth, LED Roadway Lighting of Halifax and Virtual Marine Technology of St. John’s.)
TechVibes earlier in the week posted its list of the top Atlantic Canadian startups, again ranked by Alexa.com. Compilr of Halifax came in second behind SimplyCast. The tops for other provinces were ScreenScape Networks of P.E.I., Lymbix of New Brunswick and Celsius Game Studios of Newfoundland and Labrador.
And finally (not to mention belatedly) congrats to four young Atlantic Canadian startups that are going to the G20 Young Entrepreneur Summit in Nice, France, at the end of the month. The Atlantic Canadian contingent includes a pair of Moncton-based dynamos, April Glavine of Lean Machine Healthy Vending Service and Ken Leblanc of PropertyGuys.com. They will be joined by Lesley Steele of the Eastern Passage Village Veterinary Hospital in Eastern Passage, NS, and Mike Wahl of Definitions Wellness Safety Services in St. John’s.
