BioNB CEO Meaghan Seagrave is leaving the New Brunswick organization to head up Bioindustrial Innovation Canada and its affiliated Sustainable Chemistry Alliance, which invests in early-stage life sciences companies.

Seagrave, who holds a master’s degree in Food Science from the University of British Columbia, as well as several certificates and diplomas in communications and management development, has worked at BioNB since 2013 and has been the organization’s executive director since 2014.

She also serves on the board of more than half-a-dozen regional and national organizations. At BioNB, much of her work hinged on facilitating industry collaborations and knowledge-sharing.

Bioindustrial Innovation Canada, or BIC, provides services and advice to life sciences companies, as well as financial backing. Since its founding in 2008, the Sarnia, Ont.-based organization has invested about a combined $20 million in 32 startups.

“Meaghan is a nationally recognized thought leader in the bioeconomy and has been spearheading research and innovation opportunities across the country for over a decade,” said BIC in a statement. “Her national influence will help BIC bring industry and association collaborators together across a multitude of resource and technology sectors in Canada.

“Her ability to build strong relationships and partnerships will help to position BIC as Canada’s leading national business accelerator for clean, green, and sustainable technologies.”

Seagrave will replace outgoing Executive Director Sandy Marshall, who will stay on as an advisor for BIC’s Ontario Bioindustrial Innovation Network.
