Charlottetown, PE, Canada – December 17th, 2013 – Island Abbey Foods Ltd™, a PEI based natural health product and specialty food producer, congratulates Immunitor, developer of Immunoxel an immunotherapy treatment utilized for Tuberculosis, on receiving a grant from Grand Challenges Canada.
Grand Challenges Canada, funded by the Government of Canada has extended seed grants of $100,000 each to 83 inventive new ideas for addressing health problems in resource-poor countries. The Grand Challenges Canada “Stars in Global Health” program seeks breakthrough and affordable innovations that could transform the way disease is treated in the developing world -- innovations that may benefit the health of developed world citizens as well.
Of the 83 grants announced today, 50 are given to innovators in 15 low- and middle-income nations worldwide and 33 to Canadian-originated projects, to be implemented in a total of 30 countries throughout the developing world. The portfolio of 83 creative, out-of-the-box ideas, selected through independent peer review from 451 applications, includes projects submitted by social entrepreneurs, private sector companies and non-government organizations as well as university researchers. “We are happy to congratulate Immunitor on receiving this grant through Grand Challenges Canada in support of their efforts in creating a new treatment for Tuberculosis by way of the Honibe pure dried Honey Lozenges platform.” stated John Rowe, President of Island Abbey Foods Ltd. “Immunoxel is a promising treatment for Tuberculosis and we are very excited about the opportunity to help develop a new effective delivery mechanism for this cause.”
