We’ve almost completed the list of speakers for Invest Atlantic, which will take place at the World Trade and Convention Centre in Halifax on Sept. 26. We believe we have a superb lineup for all the slots, but there are three plenary sessions that I want to draw your attention to right now.
This year’s Keynote Address will be moderated by Permjot Valia, a superangel from London who has been an active investor in Nova Scotia in recent years. Rather than a monologue it will be a discussion on the outlook of investing in the region, featuring two investors with ties to Atlantic Canada, Michael Blakey, Director of Avonmore Developments of London, UK, and Randy Thompson, CEO of VentureAlberta Angel Forum of Calgary, AL.
With the creation of C100 in California, we’re going to look at how to approach Silicon Valley. Nancy Mathis, the Executive Director of the Wallace McCain Institute in Saint John will moderate the session, which will feature David Crow, Editor of Startup North of Toronto, Matt Eldridge, CEO of Lymbix of Moncton and Jevon MacDonald, CEO of Halifax-based GoInstant.
Invest Atlantic will close off with a discussion of the coming Regional Venture Capital fund, sponsored by GrowthWorks Atlantic, whose CEO Tom Hayes will be moderator. The speakers are Dominique Bélanger, Director of Strategic Initiatives of the Business Development Bank of Canada in Montreal and Gregory Smith, President of Canada's Private Equity & Venture Capital Fund Association.
