Halifax Innovation District has joined a network of similar groups convened by the Global Institute on Innovation Districts, or GIID.

Innovation Districts are defined as highly productive and densely concentrated city areas where people develop eosystems that foster generating and accelerating ideas. The GIID network allows distritcts to share best practices and strategy sessions on topics such as governance, venture capital funding and public/private sector partnerships.

“Innovation Districts are important economic drivers for cities. We look forward to collaborating with our district colleagues in supporting the growth of startups and scaleups, and social and corporate innovation globally,” Wendy Luther, President and CEO of lead group Halifax Partnership, said in a statement.

Julie Wagner, GIID president, said the pandemic has made it more urgent for innovation districts to engage with each other.

“The Global Institute’s interim network is uncovering purposeful insights about how districts such as Halifax can mitigate the pandemic’s impacts and reposition themselves for recovery and beyond,” Wagner said.
