Energia Ventures, an international tech accelerator operated by University of New Brunswick, has begun its fall 2022 cohort, whose five members include two from Atlantic Canada.

The free accelerator is based in Fredericton at UNB’s J. Herbert Smith Centre for Technology Management and Entrepreneurship, or TME. It supports companies involved in energy, cleantech, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence.

The program used to be held annually, but TME is hosting two cohorts this year, with the fall cohort being the second. The first eight weeks of the program will be held online, and the final four weeks in person.

“Once again, we’re super-excited to be launching our eighth cohort of Energia Ventures” said Joe Allen, Director of Accelerators for TME. “After multiple interviews and a thorough analysis, we managed to narrow down the list of applicants to the five companies we’ll have with us for this cohort. It was challenging, just like in previous years, we had a great response in terms of the number of applicants and the quality of the ventures looking to participate in our program.”

The second cohort of 2022 consists of:

Iceberg Cyber (Toronto) – Cybersecurity services for small businesses.

ClimaTech Innovations (Saint John) – Developing solutions to maximize the potential of forests to mitigate climate change.

SolarFi (Los Angeles) – Cleantech company that focuses on mobility, adtech, and energy.

ASETS-LUX (Luxembourg) – Cloud computation and predictive analysis for reducing engineering cycles.

Recircle Waste Management Solutions (Antigonish, NS) – Remanufacturing plastic waste into consumer products and industrial raw materials.

“It’s exciting to be hosting our eighth group of this amazing program,” said Dr. Dhirendra Shukla, Chair of the J. Herbert Smith Centre. “With this cohort, we are building both our local and our international presences, with three Canadian and two international companies. It’s great to be able to have a hybrid format, especially when it comes to hosting the demo day event in-person!”

Energia’s second cohort of 2022 will conclude in December with an in-person demo day.
