Transnational tech consultancy Cognizant, based in New Jersey, has announced it will open a branch office in Halifax that could employ up to 1,250 people.
“We chose Halifax as our next expansion location in Canada to support our growing number of clients, and we look forward to contributing to the region’s vibrant technology community,” said Head of Delivery Centers Jay Macisaac in a press release.
“We are pleased to be supporting the growth of the region with the creation of new employment opportunities and are grateful to the Province for their partnership and support of Cognizant expanding in Nova Scotia.”
The batallion of technology workers will be paid with the help of “payroll rebate agreements” backed by industry group Nova Scotia Business Inc.
“A payroll rebate is an earned incentive, paid out yearly after a company achieves pre-determined targets,” says NSBI on its website. “The rebate is a return on a company’s eligible gross payroll.”
