Applications for the 2018 BioInnovation Challenge are open to early-stage health and life science companies in Atlantic Canada.
Contestants will vy for $25,000 in seed funding and advisory services for a total prize package valued at $55,000 to develop their business idea.
The competition will be held during the BioPort 2018 conferenceon Nov. 7 and 8 at the Halifax Convention Centre. BioNova, in Halifax, has been hosting the competition that recognizes commercialization potential in health and life sciences since 2011.
“Every year we are blown away by the potential of the companies in the competition,” said Scott Moffitt, Managing Director at BioNova. “Even a small investment in health innovation can spur business growth, job creation and better health outcomes for Canadians.”
A statement issued by BioNova said the BioPort 2018 conference is set to be their biggest yet. It is also the inaugural year for a new program for Nova Scotia’s youth.
BioInnovation Challenge Junior (BIC Junior) is open to high school and first-year post-secondary students with health and life science business ideas to compete for a prize of $2,000.
Past winners of the BIC include New Brunswick-based Pfera, along with Spring Loaded Technology and Covina Biomedical from Nova Scotia.
