For the second time in a year, an Atlantic Canadian company will attend SeedCamp New York, the prestigious tech mentorship gathering in the world’s financial capital.
Jordan Smith, a Halifax entrepreneur whose OneLobby operates a social network for conference attendees, is heading to New York next week to attend the event. Last year, Patrick Hankinson, another Halifax entrepreneur, attended SeedCamp New York with his company Compilr and was chosen as one of four finalists to go to the global SeedCamp event in London. This year, Hankinson is attending as one of the mentors.
Launched just last year, OneLobby is a social media platform for attendees of large conferences, helping them to make meaningful connections with other attendees and presenters before, during and after the conference. OneLobby has already been used by six different events, and Smith has presented the company at the Plannertech conference in May, also in New York.
OneLobby is the only Canadian company accepted into SeedCamp New York 2012, which includes participants from the U.S., U.K., Russia, Poland and Bulgaria. “It’s a very dynamic bunch, and the list of mentors is pretty dynamic as well,” said Jordan. The list of mentors includes tech specialists, venture capital investors and execs from such tech companies as Salesforce.com, Google and Paypal.
In the last two months, Smith has been pushing his business forward, signing more clients and attracting seed funding from British investor Permjot Valia. He is continuing with his fundraising efforts and hopes to raise a seed round of about $500,000.
He is also building out the OneLobby team and expects to announce key hires soon.
