We’re proud today to publish INNOVATION IN NOVA SCOTIA, the first in our series of PDF-based supplements that we’re producing under the Entrevestor Intelligence brand. And we’re delighted to publish it on the same day as we launch our new web design, .
Entrevestor Intelligence is a series of supplements on the innovation economy in the Atlantic Provinces. Starting with Nova Scotia, we delve into statistics that reveal the region’s progress in developing the ecosystem for innovative companies.
We’ve looked into data produced by government and at our own databank, and produced a document that reveals a robust and evolving support system for startups and later-stage companies.
INNOVATION IN NOVA SCOTIA shows that there’s a healthier atmosphere for funding young companies than existed even a few years ago. Venture Capital companies have made equity investments of more than $16 million already this year, exceeding the totals of 2009 or 2010. And young companies are proving especially successful at attracting investment from angels in other parts of Canada and the world.
The improvements in the ecosystem extend beyond funding. Computer science enrollment at Nova Scotia universities is increasing by almost 20 percent annually, which is expanding the talent pool. And the Perennia agritech park in Truro now has excess capacity to help spawn developments in food technology.
Please dive into our new supplement, which will be on our site permanently. Its pages are replete with data unavailable elsewhere. We would like to thank Nova Scotia Business Inc. and our advertisers who made the whole project possible, and our designer Deb McGowan of New Glasgow. And to Kyle Racki, Ashley Coffin, Kevin Springer and the gang at HeadSpace Design for their work on the site.
