Ashwin Kutty perceives a missing link in the great web of social networks and business tools available today: no one has a solution to navigate the tendering process.

An international consultant based in Halifax, Kutty is now the president and CEO of weusthem Inc., a startup that will present at DemoCamp Halifax on Sept. 23. Its product RevealFP will launch in Atlantic Canada this year and its singular goal – at least in the early stages – will be to help small and medium-sized businesses compete effectively in the formal and informal procurement process both locally and internationally.

You have to admire a tech entrepreneur who has written a book about currency reform and studied sculpture in Chicago. So it’s easy to be impressed by Jordan MacLeod, the CEO of Charlottetown-based Strue Inc. Not only has MacLeod penned New Currency, but he’s also leading a company that’s revolutionizing how data is stored on the cloud.

Strue has developed a Cloud File System that ensures that a client’s data isn’t jeopardized by relying on a single storage system. The Strue system protects data by fragmenting it and distributing it among several storage companies.

CarbonCure Technology on Thursday announced that it has secured an undisclosed equity investment from 350 Capital, a Toronto investment company started by real estate developers  to invest in green building products.
The Halifax cleantech company said in a statement  that the investment comes after a successful  pilot project in Toronto in which CarbonCure blocks were used in a parking garage at the  Hullmark Centre in North York. The blocks were manufactured by Atlas Block of Midland,  Ont., which has been  testing the CarbonCure system.

The federal government on Wednesday lent $1 million to two biotech companies that have grown out of Dalhousie University’s research facilities.

Cleantech integration company LightSail Canada will soon apply to the Atlantic Innovation Fund to help with financing for a $4.6 million pilot facility to store energy produced at a wind farm near New Glasgow, N.S. In calling for a new round of startups to enter the Launch36 accelerator program, PropelICT Executive Director Trevor MacAusland released a few interesting statistics .

The 10 startups – nine of them from New Brunswick – that graduated from the first Launch36 cohort in June have already attracted more than $1 million in funding and employ 43 people, he said in a press release yesterday. One-third of them are producing revenue.

The figure on funding sounds low to me, and a few of these companies already have commitments for funding that would push the figure higher.
