Startup Weekend Nova Scotia will be held online starting on April 30, with a special focus on inclusion and diversity.
A division of the global accelerator Techstars, Startup Weekends are frequently held to bring community members together to propose and develop new ventures. Since the pandemic began, they have been held virtually.
The event later this month is supported by the Nova Scotia government, through its cultural innovation working group. The event will feature a keynote speech by Martin Basiri, the CEO and Co-Founder of Kitchener, Ont.-based ApplyBoard, a Canadian unicorn.
“This time the theme is focused on ideas helping to make the province more inclusive and diverse, especially when it comes to welcoming international students and immigrants,” said a message from Sally Ng, who is helping to organize the event. She added the event will be perfect for students or recent graduates who want to learn more about entrepreneurship.
A Startup Weekend runs for 54 hours, starting on a Friday evening with participants pitching startup ideas. The attendees then vote on the best ideas to work on. The crowd breaks into several groups and the teams work on the ideas for two days. The event is open to anyone interested in the local entrepreneurial community.
You can register and find more information here. The deadline is April 18.
