The Atlantic Canadian accelerator Propel ICT on Wednesday named the companies that will join its most recent cohort, including a full slate of P.E.I. startups and its first member from Cape Breton.

In naming the 38 companies to its first cohort of 2016, Propel has for the first time outlined a lineup of companies that will receive mentorship in all four Atlantic Provinces. The mentoring sessions will be held in P.E.I. for the first time, at LaunchPad PEI in Charlottetown.

Propel is holding two cohorts in 2016. And in accepting 38 companies, Propel will train more companies in one cohort than the 36 companies it had formerly said it would train in three years.  Some 162 companies applied for the program, of which 56 we invited to the selection camp.

Propel offers two levels of instruction. Propel ICT’s Build program supports companies that have an established product and market. Its Launch program is for ventures that are just getting started.

The Build program will include Sydney-based Phased.io – the first company accepted into the program from Cape Breton Island. It also includes Repable, whose co-founder Heather Anne Carson previously helped to found the PR consultancy Onboardly. Build also includes such notable teams as: TotalPave, the winner of the 2013 Breakthru competition; MouseStats, which just a few months ago was headquartered in Iran; and WoodsCamp, which was a regional runner-up in this year's I-3 competition.
