Strengthening its finances and team, Cape Breton healthcare administration company Health Outcomes Worldwide has landed $1.5 million in follow-on funding from Nova Scotia Business Inc. weeks after it hired Ted Maclean as Chief Executive Officer.

The company, which received $250,000 in funding from Innovacorp in 2011, will use the new funding to roll-out of the next version of its How2Trak healthcare outcomes measurement software, as well as other products.

Founded by original CEO Corrine McIsaac, Health Outcomes helps healthcare providers improve their service for patients while reducing costs. The company’s How2Trak system allows a health professional to enter a patient’s clinical data through a laptop or mobile device. The system then tells nurses the best practice for the patient’s situation while it tracks and reports on the quality and cost of the care provided.

Health Outcomes Worldwide has the largest proprietary database of wound care treatment data in North America and is using the proceeds of this round of investment to launch the next version of How2Trak and initiate other products. The product is now used in about 50 jurisdictions, and the company plans to double its workforce of 15 as it rolls How2Trak out internationally.

Maclean – who’s hiring was announced late last month --  has been brought in to oversee the rollout of How2Trak and build up the company’s organizational, financial and process platforms. McIsaac will serve as President and Chief Development Officer, focusing on the development of several new products and services this year.

Maclean has more than 30 years of corporate and management consulting experience and worked in building delivery platforms and implementing projects in healthcare service provider agencies, hospitals and community care access centres. He most recently served as the Executive Director of the Community Advantage home care division of Centric Health of Toronto.

“With his background and experience we will have the leadership necessary to meet the challenges facing us as we grow and ensure that we continue to deliver excellence and value to our customers” said McIsaac in a statement.
